Are these symptoms?

Posted on

It’s been so long since I’ve had anything remotely close to ovulation that I can’t tell if this is me being lame, or if they may be symptoms that Clomid is actually working:

1. Tired. Like, can’t keep my eyes open after lunch. I feel foggy right now, and I’m not sure why.

2. Headache: A dull fog-like headache that has come in the afternoon the last couple of days.

3. Slight weird crampy pinchie feeling on my left ovary side.

4. Still low morning temps, but steadily creeping upward. I was at 97.64 this morning and I have never. Repeat. Never. had temps that high in the  morning except for the months that I’ve eventually ovulated. My post ovulation temps are usually around 97.9 and 98.2.

Other than that, nothing. No EWCM, not even watery CM. I used my ovulation microscope/spit slides today, and I’m still not “ferning”. I was “transitioning” according to the slide–which, for the record, has been exactly the same as every other month I never ovulated. So, no ovulation yet. Hubs and I got in a good ole romp in the hay last night, and will most likely continue the trend every day or every other day for the next week or so to see if we can catch an egg. I have to say that sex last night felt…different. Better. I was more turned on from sex than I’ve been in a long time. When I used to ovulate somewhat consistently, sex often felt that good….sigh. Those were the days.

Tomorrow, the gyno looks at my lady bits and I get to see if this Clomid stuff really works. It will be CD12, which feels a bit early in the cycle for me, but who knows. Maybe we’ll see something a-brewing. My results are in from the glucose tolerance test, but the doc has not called me with them yet. Impatience!

QUESTION: Regarding sex and keeping my husband’s swimmers in my barely functioning vag (every spermie counts!), I’ve heard everything from “legs up in the air” to “roll on your side”, to “hips propped up on two pillows”. Ultimately, I’ve been doing a bit of the legs over my head, butt up on two pillows thing (yes, I look ridiculous), but inevitably, I still leak, and I feel intense waves of remorse as what could be our potential child ends up running down my leg (probably trying to escape…). Also, in terms of positions, Hubs and I are huge fans of missionary–I’m hoping that this is agreeable to conception. Anyone have any tips on how to keep Hub’s DNA locked and loaded in my lady parts? How long do I have to stay laying down? Anyone who is pregnant or has been pregnant know what worked best for them? Also, because I have vag problems, I’m also highly prone to UTIs. How does one reconcile peeing right after sex with keeping Hub’s boys and girls from getting pissed out?

Oh, the body fluid questions never end.

About Sunny

I'm a happily married, 31 year old gal who is just starting her journey to conceive. I also have ovaries that may need a jump start. This blog is an attempt to channel my obsessive research on my Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome into something positive....like a pregnancy test. That would be awesome. I also hope that other women with this condition will find support in this blog. There are a lot of us out here! Happy reading, whatever your journey may be.

  1. I think the twinging feelings you’re feeling are a very good sign! I always felt twinges and fullness in my ovaries when I was taking clomid, and I consistently produced one or two good-sized follicles. Also, my libido was VERY high when I was on clomid. (Sadly, I was a single woman trying with donor sperm at the time, so I couldn’t really take advantage of that.)

Re: keeping the swimmers “up there.” I’ve heard of women using the Instead cup to keep the sperm in the vaginal canal after sex, so that might be something to look into. I know nothing about one position being better than another because nothing has ever worked for me. :S

Good luck with the ultrasound! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ve got some good eggs brewing in there.

  2. The crampie pinchie feeling is DEFINITELY a good ovulation sign. The headache is a Clomid side effect (my doctor said I might have them, but I didn’t). My ovulation pain got fairly severe, so much so that it effected what positions we could have sex in actually. I usually subscribe to the legs over my head as much as possible for at least 10 minutes and then pillows under butt with a towel wrapped around my lady parts like a diaper to keep said pillow….uncontaminated. Not that I’ve ever been pregnant or anything, but that’s about as good as it gets for me. I hope they have good things to tell you tomorrow! I didn’t have EWCM unfortunately which worries me, but I’ve had lots of creamy cm and even some watery cm after ovulation. Not to mention that my breasts hurt like a bitch and the clomid cramps have been pretty bad. It’ll all be worth it if it leads to a little dna replica of the hubs and me though.

    • Haha! I’m glad I’m not the only one with post coital feet above head rituals! I will be reporting back about tomorrow’s ultrasound…grow follies, grow!

  3. First, I LOVE that you use a ferning microscope. I’m incredibly jealous. I thought about adding it to my daily regimen, but I had about 1,242 OPKs from Amazon, so I didn’t buy a microscope. Sigh.

As for positions, I’ve read that missionary is great and that girl on top is bad. I would bet that this information is not based on scientific research and analysis, but it seems to make intuitive sense.

Good luck with the test results and at the ultrasound tomorrow!

  4. Yet one more thing we have in common..sex/uti issues! I have read and heard numerous times that the crap the leaks out after sex is not sperm. I suppose there may be a few, and it doesn’t hurt to lay there for a few minutes as opposed to jumping up, but the majority of sperm swim so fast, they are where they need to be by the time it’s done. What comes out after is just the surrounding…extras. When I have my iui’s, thats the stuff they wash away. So, don’t worry at all abt leakage. And no need to stand on your head either..just try to lay there for a few minutes.

However, this is easier said than done for someone prone to infections..and I know. I feel like every time I have sex, I get an infection because there is sperm leakage all night long, breeding bacteria. My hubs wants to know if I am the only one with this problem, as I go through like a box of tissues every time we have sex. Bleh. I hate it, and I itch and swell..etc. got no answers on that one.

    • It’s uncanny how much our reproductive tracts have in common! From what I understand, the uti’s are sometimes related to yeast. I know that whenever I have a yeast infection, I also get burnie and swollen afterwards, so I know that I need to treat the yeast ASAP. After one Diflucan, the burnie after sex feeling goes away. From what I understand, there is burning due to the acidity of your body (which perpetuates the growth of yeast), and the basic-ness of the semen (if the ph balance is off in your vagina, it doesn’t interact well with the sperm.) To counteract this, I have been drinking hot water with half a fresh squeezed lemon every morning and night (lemon ph is very basic, and it helps to counteract your body’s acidity). For what it’s worth, I’ve also read that cysts are formed in an acidic environment, which is why PCOS is linked to frequent yeast infections.

      • You are full of great information! I did not know lemon water would also create a basic environment. I sometimes drink vinegar and water and it is le’gross. I’ll have to try the lemon! And I agree with the above comments that the important stuff shoots up there pretty fast and the rest is just juice. For peace of mind, I usually lay around for 3 to 4 minutes and then high tail it to the bathroom. Might I also recommend baby wipes to assist in cleanup and then reduce tissue usage. One baby wipe or two followed by a clean soft washcloth does the trick for me!

      • I have nothing helpful to add. Just a comment. The sex we had the other night was the first time I paused before doing the “cup and run” (as we call it in our household). I cup it and run to the bathtub and wash right after. I am glad I am not alone.
SO, the occasional burning after sex thing, that is the acidity in us? Sometimes burns during sex but never had any symptoms otherwise….. hmmmm interesting.
I will try the water. Good discussion. Thanks for posting.

      • Great idea, Belle! I have some wipes, but never thought about using for sex. Eureka! @Kathryn, from what I understand there are a couple reasons (aside from STDs) for vaginal burning after ejaculation: 1. Your partner has eaten something that changes the chemistry of his semen. Alcohol can also be a culprit. 2. Yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis–the ph levels are too acidic in the vagina and don’t react well with the semen’s alkalinity. Things I’ve used in the past to help restore body alkalinity/rid myself of yeast (and thus be closer to semen’s ph) are lemon water, Diflucan, staying hydrated (body becomes more acidic when dehydrated), and douching after my period with vinegar and water or Betadine solution. In college, I could barely have sex with my boyfriend because it burned every time we did. It was as if I had a permanent yeast infection. My mom got me Betadine, which is essentially iodine. I douched with warm water and Betadine for a week, and I kid you not, the burning after sex/yeast problems went away for 2 years. Here’s an interesting link about Betadine: http://www.livestrong.com/article/83200-bacterial-vaginosis-remedies/ It’s not to be used when pregnant, though, so best to do it after your period, before ovulation.

  5. I’m going to stop lurking long enough to say that I had the foggy-feeling/headaches from clomid. I also felt like my hands were cold all the time. Anyway, I wanted to chime in and say that clomid will interfere with your cm, so you can’t really use that as an ovulation indicator when taking it. If that concerns you, I’ve read of some women using pre-seed as a lube since it mimics the good cm and lets the sperm travel on about their business. Also have heard of women taking Robitussin to thin out their cm.

    • Yeah! Great to e-meet you, AlleyCat! I have a tube of Pre-Seed locked and loaded, and I’m not afraid to use it. Good call. If my CM doesn’t improve in the next day or so, I’m going to bust it out. Also good to know I’m not the only one with the foggy headachy feelings.

  7. I basically did the butt-in-air thing that the lady on the Big Lebowski did (haha!). Mostly for laughs, but a little for serious. Also we used the sperm-friendly lube, lots of it! I wouldn’t worry tooooo much about leakage, do the cleaning you have to do. Most of it stays up there anyway, unless you really go spelunking to get all of it out, and even then the actual sperm probably already made it in. 🙂

  8. I used to do the laying on my back with my butt propped up…I did it for like a year, and also made sure to have sex in the missionary position… Then, ironically, got pregnant when we had sex with me on top…and no laying down afterward. It’s safe to say that the sperm makes it up where it needs to be regardless of whether you’re laying down or not!
