UT-I am going to effing punch something

Posted on

Remember how yesterday I said that Hubs and I were going to have sex a bunch over the next week or so? I believe the term was “do it every night this week until our gentials wither”. Well, perhaps I meant, “Until I get a motherfucking UTI.” After we had sex last night, I felt something was “off”. I waited an obligatory 30 mins to pee, and realized very quickly that the lingering burning was my classic “UTI is a coming symptom”. Two nights ago, I hadn’t peed after sex for a couple of hours, and I’m wondering if that’s what did it? or last night’s session? I’m just so scared to pee after sex because I don’t want to pee everything out, you know?

FUCKKKKKK!

When I felt the burning, I panicked. These stupid mother FUCKING UTI’s are so painful, and they ramp up within hours, so I knew what I would be in store for. Sure enough, 5 hours later, doubled over in pain, Hubs and I were at the ER so I could get some antibiotics. (just an FYI–if you ever need to go to the ER for a UTI, make sure you tell them that you are in extreme pain, and that you found blood in your urine–it’s the only way that many insurances cover an emergency room visit for a UTI. Evidently you have to see blood in order for it to be declared a “true emergency”. Feeling like your urethra and genitals are burning off and screaming on the toilet every time you piss isn’t enough.)

I have taken many different antibiotics for UTI’s and the only one that seems to work is Cipro. I discussed this with the ER doctor, because I have heard it’s not safe during pregnancy, but he said it’s a 3 Day treatment, and that the only studies that have shown adverse effects of Cipro are in fetal bone development (I’m no where near that stage, even if I were to be pregnant this month).

Has anyone had a UTI right during your perfect fertile window time? I believe I ovulated some time yesterday afternoon, as my temps are up at 98.0 this morning (anything above 97.7 indicates some form of ovulation for me). Does anyone know if antibiotics kill sperm? Everything I’ve been reading says no, and the doc said no last night…I just can’t fucking believe that I have to worry about this shit now.  I’m so goddamn sick and tired of my body…yeast infections, bladder infections, ovarian issues….I’m just done with this. DONE.

About Sunny

I'm a happily married, 31 year old gal who is just starting her journey to conceive. I also have ovaries that may need a jump start. This blog is an attempt to channel my obsessive research on my Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome into something positive....like a pregnancy test. That would be awesome. I also hope that other women with this condition will find support in this blog. There are a lot of us out here! Happy reading, whatever your journey may be.

  1. Suck. I hate UTI’s. They are awful, awful, awful things. Can you believe that some women have never had them at all? They probably got pregnant on the first try, too.

  2. Ohhhh noooo. I’m so sorry this happened. But I’m glad you’ve learned the trick to getting your ER visit covered! I think you should be fine and if you already ovulated, then you’re golden girl!

  3. You must get soft cups…you can insert them after you have sex and they keep the sperm nice and close to the cervix. Plus you can pee and nothing will leak out. You can buy them online or in your drugstore near the tampons and such.

Also, I don’t think an antibiotic will cause any issues. My logic behind this is that antibiotics actually render birth control (the pill) ineffective and lots of women get pregnant while on the pill because they took an antibiotic at the same time. However, those lucky SOBs are also fertiles, so maybe take my advice with a grain of salt?

    • Trust me, I was thinking the EXACT thing about antibiotics and the pill, and also about the soft cups. I am using those next month. NO MORE of this shit.

  4. I hate UTI’s! I had one in March that made me very, very sick just a few days after we were supposed to have our frozen embryo transfer (when we found out that day when they thawed, that we had no embryos) looking back…perhaps a good thing. I hope it clears up quickly!

    • UTI’s are KILLER. I honestly don’t think that anyone can truly understand the pain and discomfort unless they’ve experienced one themselves. The feeling is indescribable.

  6. oh man.. UTI’s are the worst!! The first time I got one I thought I was suffering from appendicitis. I felt like a wimp when the ER told me “it was a bladder infection.” I soon learned that AZO tangerine anesthetic pill would become my best friend. I can’t even LEAVE the toilet without taking one of those if I have a UTI.
I’m SO sorry you have one, and hope that it resolves quickly and it looks like it’s good news with the antibiotics according to what people say… that shouldn’t affect a thing!

  7. Ha! I love that you know how to milk the system at the ER, too! I always say I’m having shortness of breath (which is never a lie b/c I have anxiety over hospitals!) and I get back right away and insurance covers everything.

Hopefully you’ll be feeling better after some antibiotics gets through your system. I have no idea if this would work, but have you popped an instead cup in after sex to hold spermies in but allow you to pee? Would that help cut down on UTIs?

    • LOVE your little ER tricks, Ms. Belle! The soft cups are ABSOLUTELY being used next month, shall I get to that point. I will not be waiting more than 10 mins to pee anymore. I’ve gone through this, like, 50 times, and last night was the final straw.

  8. Ohhh nooooo! I’m so sorry that freaking blows.

Whenever I get them I have to take cipro because I’m allergic to the other stuff – works pretty well. (I even got one on my honeymoon and had to see a doctor with chickens running around in his backyard). Apparrrrrently, I’ve been told, if you pee about 10 minutes after sex you’re not going to pee anything out. (that’s what I get them from.. sex sex sex).

If you take one round of cipro during your fertile period you should be aces, it’s not gonna kill anything.

    My poor Sunny.

  9. Omg, first the Diflucan and now Cipro?? Maybe take some probiotics to get the good bacteria all replenished? So funny about the ER — my mom (who’s a doctor) always tells me to tell the triage nurse that I “have chest pain and a history of heart problems”, which always does the trick, although it sounds a little extreme if you’re just going in for some Cipro. I completely empathize with the “why do ALL my lady bits have to malfunction at once?!” line of thought, though… almost makes you wanna rip them all out. Almost. 🙂

  10. Ugh. I’m sorry, that sucks. As long as the doctor says it’s okay, I wouldn’t worry about the antibiotics. I hope you feel better soon!

Oh…millionbabysteps had advice for bladder infections a while back. Maybe it’s worth a try? http://millionbabysteps.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/the-never-failing-bladder-infection-cure/

  12. Sucks!! I hate UTI burn. I used to get them all the time and take antibiotics and they would go away but come back in a month or two. My last one I told my acupuncturist about it and she gave me a needle treatment and some herbs for it. I felt better that night and haven’t had one since! Over a year ago!

  13. Oh my gosh. I can imagine how frustrating that would be. I am hardcore though and I’m sure I would not let it get in my way. I have a feeling you are the same way.
I hope it clears up really fast and you can get some relief.

Loved seeing you on the Vlog by the way!

  14. I don’t think antibiotics kill sperm because of all the warnings about antibiotics and birth control – mainly, that antibiotics make birth control less effective so you’re supposed to use backup if you are preventing pregnancy.

Ugh constant UTIs suck 😦 I hope this one goes away quickly…!

  15. Damnit, that sucks. But, listen to your doctor. I’m sure you’ll be fine taking the antibiotics and, more importantly, you’ll feel much better.

  17. I’m sorry, Sunny!

I remember when I was about 20 years old, I had about 3 UTI’s in 6 months time. I didn’t know what was going on, so my doctor told me after the third time to please make sure I would go to the bathroom immediately after having sex.

I always made sure I did, and I only had another UTI one more time, and that was because I waited 2 hours to go. I wasn’t TTC at that time.

TTCing now, I make sure I go after the 30 minutes and don’t wait any longer. I know that even a few hours can make a UTI happen, so I’d say you might have contracted it that night you didn’t go to the bathroom for a few hours.

Hope you get rid of it soon. I didn’t think it was going to have any influence on what’s going on in your uterus, it could just complicate things when you are further along. But I’m no nurse or doctor, so I probably shouldn’t speculate on things.
